Rainfall

Tanzania is divided into two rainfall patterns namely unimodal (one
season) and bimodal (two seasons) rainfall regimes. The seasonal
rains for the unimodal regime occurs from November/December to
April over the Southern, Southwestern, Central and Western areas of
the country. The bimodal rainfall regime has two rain seasons, the
“long rains” season experienced from March to May and short rains
experienced from mid September to December over the coast north
of Mafia and its hinter-land, North-eastern Highlands, Lake Victoria
basin and the Islands of Unguja and Pemba.

TEMPERATURE.

Temperatures were generally high during January over the entire
coastal (northern and southern) and some parts of western and central
areas of Tanzania. The mean maximum temperatures of these areas
were in average above 32oC.
However cooler temperatures less than 15°C were recorded over
some parts of North-eastern Highlands, South-western, Western of
Lake Victoria and some parts of Central. Minimum temperatures of
less than 15°C were common in South-western highlands and Northeastern
highlands. In July, low temperatures of less than 9°C were
common in South-western Highlands particularly in Mbeya region.
The underneath maps show spatial distribution of mean annual
maximum and minimum temperature during January
