Philip Ashby Hunting

Philip Ashby is a well mannered, soft spoken, skilful professional hunter with a profound respect for all wildlife. He knows all you need about Africa’s big game, small game, birds, fishes and botany. I recently trusted him for a nerve-racking, adrenaline bursting six hour, thick bush, wounded buffalo search. Never for a second did he slow down, draw back or take an unnecessary risk (please listen to him and don’t shoot a buffalo too high in the shoulder as I did) and certainly would be happy to have him on my side in any similar situation in the future. He will discuss his client’s requests, ideas, needs and opinions either agreeing or giving specific and exhaustive explanations on why there is an eventual divergence and if there is any even slight possibility he will fulfil your needs.

In the hurried, critical moment of shot taking he will remain calm but firm, never putting unnecessary pressure on his client and guiding him to take the best shot. He loves to “walk and stalk” and will be contagious with this hunting technique letting you appreciate how much more satisfying a trophy is if it was obtained after a perfectly executed stalk. I’ll never be happy with a shot from a car after his mentoring.  His tracking skills are those of a good professional tracker therefore adding a useful extra pair of eyes in the never easy task of game search.

His all round hunting knowledge and professionalism is evident to the rest of the staff inducing their respect with the consequent, obvious advantages for the client. He endlessly answered my, sometimes pathetic, questions on any hunting topic giving me many times, finally,  the answer that many times before wasn’t as clear and satisfying. We recently hunted together in Tanzania on a 10 day safari in an open area next to the Selous; this was my first magical hunting experience in Africa with all the connected thrill and passion you can imagine. As a first time hunter in Africa I obviously can’t compare Philip with other local professionals but certainly can express my satisfaction and share my feelings and conviction that meeting him was a very lucky shot… but after all isn’t that an essential ingredient for successful hunting?

Therefore I highly recommend him to whoever wants successful, trouble free, big trophy, African hunting. I’ll be happy to personally answer any questions regarding my hunting experience with Philip at my cell phone number:

“I hope all is well with you in Tanzania.  I am sorry it has taken me so long to get some of these photos to you.  I have to say I had a TERRIFIC time with you in the bush.  It has been a lot of fun telling and re-telling the stories.  I appreciate everything you did for me getting these trophies.  I hope to see you soon again.

Keep in touch.

“Philip is a suberb person and an outstanding professional hunting guide. He is careful and safe and always watches out for the client's best interest. He works hard for his clients and appears tireless in his efforts to achieve the results his clients desire. He has extensive knowlegde of Africa and its fauna and flora, and makes the experience fun and memorable. He was great with my teenage son who remembers his time with Philip with delight.
